‘Sesame Street’ Pushes DVD with Contest

Sesame Workshop is launching an instant-win game around an upcoming DVD release starring Elmo and friends, which offers the chance at a walk-on role on “Sesame Street.”

“Sesame Street’s” latest DVD, “Ready For School,” helps kids prepare for their new experiences in school. In it, Elmo learns what to expect in a classroom, while Baby Bear talks about his first day at Storybook Community School.

Specially marked DVDs will include an instant-win game with an eDecoder. Kids use the tool to play an online rhyming game at SesameWorkshop.Eprize.net/Rhyme/. In the “Rhyme Your Way to Sesame Street” promotion, players hold up their eDecoder to reveal words on Abby’s “Magic Chalkboard.” People who choose the right words will have a chance to win instant prizes.

Prizes include “Sesame Street” toys, books, electronics and games. The promotion begins July 14 and runs through Dec. 31.

Every participant will be entered for a chance at the grand-prize: a child’s walk-on-role on “Sesame Street.” The package includes a four-day trip for four to New York, admission to the show and $1.600 in spending money. EPrize handles the game.

The DVD includes a bonus item of “Abby’s First Day of School,” which stars Abby Cadabby, “Sesame Street’s” newest character. Sesame Workshop is working with Genius Products, to distribute the film, which hit stores shelves on July 24. The DVD will retail for $14.93.
