A new album from Ryan Adams & the Cardinals is getting airplay online through the iLike social music site one week ahead of its release date.
“Cardinology” started streaming on the site yesterday in a two-day prelude to its release on Oct. 28. The rock group also shot a video introduction to accompany the preview of the album’s 12 tracks on iLike. Fans can check out the tracks online.
“We do it for special occasions and special albums,” said iLike spokeswoman Emily Glassman.
A few iLike users will also gain entrée to an event featuring Ryan Adams and the band next Wednesday. More details about that event will be posted on iLike the day before.
The Adams release is the first album from the prolific rock artist in more than a year. iLike’s first album preview, of REM’s “Accelerate” in March, drew millions of listeners, according to Glassman.
The iLike site claims 30 million registered users who can share music recommendations, playlists and personalized concert alerts with each other.
In addition to its availability on iLike and iLike’s Facebook application, the album will debut through the iLike sidebar for iTunes.
The band is also slated to appear on “The Late Show with David Letterman” to plug the release on Oct. 29.
