Revenue Down for Catalina Marketing

Catalina marketing Corp., St. Petersburg, FL, reported first quarter net income of $9.4 million on $94.4 million in revenue compared with net income of $11.7 million on $93.9 million in revenue in first quarter 2000. The quarter ended June 30.

Catalina experienced the slide in revenue despite having brought the total number of U.S. outlets participating in its data gathering business to 15,635, up from 14,352 a year earlier. Its manufacturer clients, who underwrite some of the checkout data analytic functions it undertakes, have reduced their spending.
