Primedia Business Magazines & Media has outsourced the fulfillment operations for its controlled publications to Hallmark Data Systems in Chicago.
The deal, which takes effect today, includes 74 titles. The conversion process is expected to be completed by the end of October, said Christine Oldenbrook, vice president of audience marketing, for Primedia Business Magazines & Media.
More than 40 employees will be laid off as the transition unfolds.
Most layoffs will take place in Olathe, KS, where the majority of the firm’s fulfillment operations are based. That office is expected to close by the end of June, Oldenbrook said.
Last month, Primedia Business Magazines & Media outsourced management of its 90-plus business-to-business magazine postal lists and 50 e-mail files to list management and brokerage firm Statlistics in Danbury, CT.
The decision to outsource list management and fulfillment is part of an ongoing effort to improve business processes, the firm said.
Primedia Business Magazines & Media is the publisher of DIRECT magazine and DIRECT Newsline.
