More than a dozen states have proposed do-not-mail legislation, said Postmaster General John E. Potter during his address at the National Postal Forum on Monday.
Potter told attendees that the U.S. Postal Service would oppose such legislation. Mailers need to focus on issues spurring such legislation, such as mail being sent to households where it’s not welcome, he said.
“This legislation is a call to action for all of us. Even though bills have been pulled back in four states, you can never be sure how the legislative process is going to play out,” said Potter, according to a transcript of his remarks released by the USPS.
