Postal Service Didn’t Improve Delivery, Says Mailers Council

While the United States Postal Service maintained the productivity gains it saw in the second quarter, it did not improve on them during the third, according to the Mailers Council.

According to the Council’s latest quarterly report card, Postal Service showed minor changes among the 10 criteria evaluated.

“That also includes the poor scores for delivery productivity,” said Bob McLean, Mailers Council executive director, in a statement.

McLean continued, “Clearly, the Postal Service’s attempts to use technology to reduce handling time in this operational area have failed. To improve delivery productivity, the Postal Service must find new systems and technologies that will reduce the time letter carriers spend preparing to delivery mail, and more time on the street delivering it.”

The Mailers Council report cards grade the USPS relative to its performance in previous quarters, and to productivity trends in the private sector.
