PlanetOut, an Internet portal for the gay and lesbian community, has completed its acquisition of Out and About, a lesbian and gay magazine, Web site, and card pack, for an undisclosed sum.
The deal was first reported in the March 24th issue of DIRECT Newsline.
Out & About founders David Alport and Billy Kolber-Stuart said they will develop PlanetOut Travel while continuing to run Out & About. The publishing offices, however, will move to San Francisco from New York, while the editorial offices will remain in Los Angeles.
The new deal gives PlanetOut control of not only its own Web site, but also those of Out, The Advocate, and Out & About. While long-term plans are still being developed, the short term calls for significant links and relationships between and among the sites.
In addition, Out & About’s database of lesbian and gay travelers will remain independent, said Alport.
