The Privacy Leadership Initiative has completed its two-year mission to spearhead privacy resources for consumers and businesses and is turning the reins over to established business groups to carry on its mission.
PLI’s Web site, http://www.understandingprivacy.org, will be managed by BBBOnLine, a program of the Better Business Bureau. The site offers privacy tips and tools for consumers to manage personal privacy both online and off. The site has attracted more than 500,000 unique visitors, PLI said.
The “privacy Made Simple” guide, created by PLI to help small and medium-sized businesses develop privacy policies and qualify for an online privacy seal, while continue to be available to download from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Web site and at understandingprivacy.org.
“When we launched the Privacy Leadership Initiative, our goal was to understand the privacy expectations of consumers and to address many of their concerns with tangible action,” PLI chairman Zeke Swift said in a statement. “Mechanisms are now in place to provide education to consumers and businesses alike, and they are being widely adopted throughout the business community.”
PLI was established in September 2000 as a partnership of CEO’s from major corporations and business associations who believe individuals should be able to choose how their personal information is used.
