Omniture Inc., an e-commerce software company based in Orem, UT, has formed a strategic alliance with Baidu.com Inc., China’s largest search engine company.
The companies plan to integrate Internet search technology for managing online marketing campaigns. This arrangement is intended to give online marketers based in the U.S. access to Chinese consumer markets.
Revenues for online advertising in China have increased more than 45% for the last two years, with much of this growth coming from banner advertising and paid search ads, according to the market research firm IDC.
During 2005, Chinese consumer spending online reached the equivalent of $30 billion. It was $126.3 billion in the business-to-business sector, based on IDC’s analysis.
Other studies have found that Baidu.com’s share of Web site traffic in China exceeds 73% and its share of search engine marketing spending tops 60%.
China had more than 80 million residential Internet subscribers in 2007 and its Internet user population is projected to grow more than 10% annually through 2010.
