The nonprofit sector of the direct marketing industry recorded direct/interactive donations and sales of $91 billion last year, accounting for 7% of the total U.S. direct/interactive sales in 1998, according to a WEFA Group study for the Direct Marketing Association.
Membership organizations currently lead the non-profit sector in total revenue, with direct/interactive sales of $46 billion in 1998, followed by social services organizations with $24.8 billion in sales. Social services lead the non-profit sector in compound annual growth rate revenue with a rate of 10.46%, which is 1.8% above the average of the 51 industries using direct/interactive marketing
The $91 billion nonprofit sector is divided into three categories: donations, mail order sales, and store traffic. Currently there are 1.9 billion jobs in the non-profit sector, and 14% of individuals who are employed in direct/interactive jobs work in the nonprofit sector. Other industry segments included in the study are educational services, and museums and galleries.
