Nike Extends U.S. Olympic, Paralympic Sponsorship

Nike has extended its sponsorship of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams through the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The company will continue to provide U.S. athletes with the medal stand uniforms they wear on the awards podium during ceremonies at the upcoming Beijing Summer Olympics, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the London games.

Nike has been supporting the Olympic movement by providing athletes with athletic shoes, apparel and equipment since the Munich Olympic Game in 1972. The company became an official sponsor and licensee of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams in 2005, when preparations were being made for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

The firm will outfit all U.S. athletes competing at this year’s summer games, including official uniforms for USA Archery, USA Basketball, USA Boxing, USA Canoe/Kayak, USA Cycling, U.S. Modern Pentathlon, U.S. Rowing, U.S. Soccer Federation, USA Softball, U.S. Team Handball Federation and USA Track & Field.

“The Olympic movement is at the core of Nike’s DNA and has played a vital role in our company’s rich history,” said Joaquin Hidalgo, Nike vice president of global marketing, in a statement.
