Nielsen Online: Google Stagnant

The latest figures released by Nielsen Online show that while more queries were conducted in March 2008 compared to February, Google’s share of the search pie remained the same, while Yahoo! and MSN/Windows Live grabbed bigger shares.

Google Search grabbed 4.8 billion searches in March, or 58.7% of all searches conducted during the month, which reflected a year-over-year growth of 25.5%. Their share remained the same as its 58.7% share in February.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! Search handled 1.5 billion queries, or 18.1% of all searches conducted in March, an improvement from its 17.6% share in February. From a year-over-year perspective, Yahoo!’s market share shrunk 4.5%.

MSN/Windows Live Search handled 980 million queries in March, or 12.0% of the total. This was also an improvement from its 11.2% market share in February, and reflected a year-over-year growth of 36.6%.

AOL Search saw its market share drop noticeably from 5.2% in February to just 4.1% in March. In terms of a year-over-year perspective, AOL’s market share shrunk 19.4%.

Ask.com Search saw its market share drop slightly from 2.5% in February to 2.4% in March. The fifth place search engine realized year-over-year growth of 52.4%.
