VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC.: has teamed up with Universal and hip-hop duo OutKast to host screenings of the film Idlewild and movie soundtrack listening parties in New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles. The initiative is the third of the automaker’s Volkswagen Important People (VWIP) sponsored events to reach out to the African-American community (PROMO Xtra, July 11, 2006). Fans in each market will have the opportunity to become VWIP’s and win tickets to the listening parties through radio call-ins. The events run from Aug. 17 to Aug. 23.

CHECKERS DRIVE-IN RESTAURANTS, INC.: says that its Checkers Advertising Cooperative of Atlanta has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal to become the Official Burger of the Atlanta Falcons NFL team. To promote the Falcons sponsorship, Checkers introduced the Big Falcons Combo at select Atlanta-area locations yesterday. The Big Falcons Combo features a 1/2 lb. double Champ Burger with cheese, large fries and a large drink served in a Falcons collectible cup. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS: has launched a new collection of dormwear and intimate apparel. The collection, called aerie, includes bras, underwear, camis, hoodies, robes, boxers, sweats and leggings for consumers 15 to 25. The collection is available in AE stores nationwide.

LONG JOHN SILVER’S: is partnering with PepsiCo to serve Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist and Tropicana Lemonade at more than 500 company-owned restaurants. The brand previously was under contract to serve Coca-Cola at its restaurants. Other Yum! brands, including KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are serving Pepsi products. The conversion to Pepsi products should be complete by the end of August, the company said.
