The biggest reason shoppers give for picking a store to buy prepared food isn’t the food’s taste. Consumers say the No. 1 determinant for why they shop where they shop is the cleanliness of the foodservice area.
Taste is still a key factor for more than two-thirds of people responding to a survey by New York City’s Meyers Research Center. Freshly prepared food, good value for the price, and convenience were also listed by 60 percent of the respondents.
Some will be surprised to find that less than 50 percent of shoppers are concerned about the food’s nutritional value or high-quality ingredients. Innovative dishes and offering the kind of food shoppers would cook at home were favored by about one-third of respondents.
