National Geographic Brings Member File to Market, Selects Direct Media as Manager

National Geographic Society, Washington, DC, has made available for the first time its active membership file for list rental. The Society has chosen Direct Media Inc. to manage its direct response North American lists including its 3.1 million active member file. The appointment takes effect April 2.

“We’re excited because it opens us up to market to lists that currently were unavailable because we ourselves were not on the list rental markets,” Kitty Carroll Colbert, vice president consumer marketing said Friday.

Direct Media, Greenwich, CT, has been the long-time list manger for National Geographic’s Traveler and Adventure magazines.

This represents “an unparalleled opportunity,” for the mailer community and Direct Media, Dave Florence, CEO of Direct Media said.

In addition to the 3.1 million active members file, availability includes 3.8 million inactive members, 2.6 million active book buyers, 490,000 active video buyers, 265,000 active catalog buyers, 450,000 Traveler magazine active subscribers, 144,000 Adventure magazine active subscribers, and unduplicated National Geographic Enhanced Masterfile and 40,000 monthly change of address.
