NASCAR has signed on American Idol superstar Kelly Clarkson for its 2007 racing season.
Under the deal, Clarkson will be featured in a TV spot and make appearances at charitable initiatives and at an NASCAR awards dinner. She will also headline an at-track concert. The partnership begins Feb. 18 when the singer headlines a musical event titled the Nextel Tribute to America on the Fox network, NASCAR said.
While In Daytona, Clarkson will shoot a 30-second spot, called “NASCAR, How bad have you got it? featuring her Daytona 500 performance and race footage. The commercial will air during the 2007 racing season on Fox, TNT, ABC, ESPN and on SPEED.
The partnership marks the first time NASCAR has signed on a celebrity for an entire racing season. Terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
In addition, Clarkson will be a spokesperson and ambassador for the fourth annual NASCAR day on May 18. There, she will appear in an ad campaign promoting the event for the NASCAR Foundation. The ad will break during the Daytona 500.
Clarkson will also perform at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series’ 27th annual Champions Banquet in New York City on Dec. 3. The banquet honors the top performers of the season. It will air live on ESPN.
It’s not the first relationship between the pop star and brand. Last year, Clarkson was grand marshal for the NASCAR race during Labor Day weekend at California Speedway.
