Napster Brings Music to Target Stores

Napster plans to bring its online music experience to retail in a deal with Target Corp.

The companies plan to launch the first “one-stop shop” in a retail environment Feb. 15 with a package that includes pre-paid Napster download cards, a Napster 2.0 and Roxio software pack, blank Napster-brand optical products from Imation that feature promotional codes for redeeming free music downloads and Napster-brand CD cases.

“End caps will be featured in the electronics section of Target and will be fully Napster branded and contain all four Napster products,” said Larry Linietsky, spokesperson for Napster. “We view this as a long-term commitment to each partner and to Target.”

In addition, Target’s online division, Target Direct will also feature Napster products across the Target.com Web site. Guests of the site will be able to join Napster 2.0 throughout Target.com, available at www.target.com/napster, and within Target.com’s music section. Target.com will be the first online retailer to carry all Napster-related products, the firms said.
