MTVU Promotes Marketing and Programming Heads

MTV college channel mtvU has named Chris McCarthy, head of marketing, to senior vice president and Ross Martin, head of programming to vice president.

In his new role, McCarthy will have more responsibility to expand mtvU’s consumer products portfolio, oversee the network’s partnership development and head up business development efforts. He joined mtvU in October 2004 as director of marketing.

McCarthy played a key role to help establish mtvU as the second most trafficked general interest online destination for college students. He was also involved in launching the BestMusiconCampus.com, the network’s online site for unsigned college acts in the country and “Darfur is Dying,” an online video game. McCarthy has increased mtvU’s on campus events from under 100 to over 500 each year.

Martin will be in charge of expanding mtvU’s leadership position in multiplatform programming, the best emerging music and top student talent. In addition, he’s charged with extending the network’s connection with its audience of more than 7.2 million college students. He became head of programming shortly after the network’s launch in 2004.

The promotions come as part of mtvU’s rapid growth. The network is expanding its programming slate, ratcheting business development and marketing efforts, and enhancing its online presence.

In addition, Andrew Federici joins mtvU as vice president of online properties. In his new role, he is in charge of the development and growth of the network’s online portfolio, including mtvU.com, the College Media Network, RateMyProfessors.com and BestMusiconCampus.com among other sites. He recently worked as director of proprietary portals, IAC Consumer Applications and Portals at InterActive Corp.
