Voters in San Francisco passed a bill that will ban future naming rights deals for city-owned Candlestick Park, home of the NFL’s 49ers.
Under the Proposition H measure, the Candlestick Park name will return to the stadium as soon as the recently signed deal with Monster Cable Products ends in 2008. San Francisco-based Monster Cable paid $6 million in September for the naming rights.
However, Prop H will not apply to any privately-owned stadium built at the same Candlestick Point location. The 49ers wanted public funding for a new stadium, but will instead rely on private funding, a loan from the NFL and a voter-approved bond.
Monster Cable did not return calls to PROMO for comment.
