The Mobile Marketing Association says it ended 2006 with a 150% increase in membership over 2005, including 30 new member companies that joined late in the year.

New members joining in 2006 included A&E Television Networks, Advertising Age, Google, Ingenio, Nextcode Corp., Nortel Inc., State Farm Insurance and Virgin Mobile USA.

“The MMA continues to witness significant uptake in marketing campaigns via the mobile channels,” said Laura Marriott, MMA executive director. “Mobile is the ideal medium for capturing consumer attention.”

“2006 will be remembered as a breakthrough year for mobile marketing worldwide,” said Louis Gump, MMA global chairman and vice president of mobile at The Weather Channel Interactive. “Building on existing momentum, 2007 should be another banner year.”
