MO Pharmacy Access to Save VA Residents $2.4 B: Report

Greater access to mail order pharmacies is projected to save Virginia consumers and employers $2.4 billion on prescription drug costs by 2015, according to the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association .

The report also finds that overall increased use of prescription drugs over the next decade will cause the level of drug expenditures flowing through the state’s retail pharmacies to double in this period and reach $8.2 billion by 2015.

The report also warned that placing state restrictions on mail-service pharmacies could increase prescription drug costs for consumers and employers by $165.8 million in 2007 alone.
