Microsoft Selects McCann to Advertise Xbox in Europe

Microsoft Corp. has chosen ad agency McCann-Erickson to advertise its Xbox video game system in Europe, replacing London-based Bartle Bogle Hegarty Limited.

McCann-Erickson, a unit of Interpublic, already handles the Xbox account in the United States and Asia. A spokesperson for Xbox said the decision was made to consolidate the business under one global advertising agency.

However, there was trouble with at least one commercial created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty for Xbox that was banned by British regulators, who called it offensive. The ad, using the slogan, “Life is short. Play more.” depicted the graphic birth of a baby that was fast forwarded through life and then slammed into the grave, according to news reports.
