MCI, Inc. will sponsor the 81st Lighting of the National Christmas Tree Ceremony on Thursday.
MCI will be recognized at a dinner the evening before the tree lighting and will video the ceremony and replay highlights on a large screen for visitors to the Ellipse throughout December. The ceremony takes place at the White House Ellipse from 5 to 6 p.m.
The lighting ceremony marks the beginning of holiday festivities that include nightly entertainment by strolling costumed entertainers, and more than 50 volunteer choirs, gospel groups, bell ringers, and cloggers providing live musical performances. The National Christmas Tree is visited by thousands, who also come to see the 56 smaller decorated trees of the Pathway to Peace, which represents all 50 states, five territories and the District of Columbia.
