Mazda Names Marketing Chief

Mazda North American Operations has named David Klan as director of marketing for the company, effective Aug. 1.

In the newly created position, Klan will be responsible for all U.S.-based advertising and marketing operations, including brand development, business planning and global integration. He will report to Brian Colianni, senior VP-sales and marketing.

Prior to this assignment, Klan was general manager, global brand marketing, for Mazda Motor Corp. based in Hiroshima, Japan. He joined Mazda Canada in 1992 and served as its director of marketing from 2001 to 2004 overseeing all marketing communications, product planning and strategy, consumer incentives and marketing research. In 2004, he moved to Japan to oversee global brand marketing, unified global marketing messages and a unified global auto show strategy.

Headquartered in Irvine, CA., Mazda manages the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the U.S., Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers.
