Mattel is giving Barbie a makeover as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.
The makeover of the classic doll dovetails nicely with the imminent kick-off of the holiday shopping season. Barbie’s latest incarnation was recently unveiled during the final episode of the reality series “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Making the Team 2” on Country Music Television.
Introduction of the pro football-primped Barbie also coincides with the 35th anniversary of the creation of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders’ uniform, which features a star-spangled white vest over a blue blouse, with white shorts and cowboy boots. The ensemble is topped off with a pair of blue and silver poms.
“The Barbie dolls represent the heart and soul of American spirit and reflect the intricate design of the world-renowned Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders’ uniforms,” said Elizabeth Grampp, director of Barbie Collector Marketing, in a statement.
Barbie as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader also demonstrates ethnic diversity, designed as a blond Caucasian and a brunette Hispanic and African-American.
The dolls, priced at $34.95 each, can be pre-ordered now on http://www.Walmart.com. The new Barbies will be available at Wal-Mart stores starting in December, when they can also be bought at Dallas Cowboys Pro Shops and online at http://www.cowboysonlineproshop.com.
