The Matchbox Buried Treasure playset, which hit stores in January, target kids ages three to seven. The playset includes a wrecked pirate ship, buried treasure, a drive-through skull with light-up lights and a waterfall. For added fun, the set’s dynamite plunger lets kids “blow up” rocks and dirt that surround the hidden treasure. The playset carries a price tag of $19.99.
In addition, Matchbox released its Matchbox 1-75 Collection of die-cast cars aimed at target kids three and up. The cars retail for 99 cents each.
An instant-win sweepstakes supports the new product line. Consumers who buy specially marked Matchbox 1-75 basic vehicle packages can look inside for a gold-colored medallion game piece. Only winning packages will contain the medallion game piece.
The grand-prize winner will receive a trip for four to a seven-day, all-inclusive, pirate adventure aboard their own private yacht charter in St. Thomas. Twenty-seven first-prize winners will receive a treasure chest of Mattel toys, valued at $500 each. Mattel will award 270 second-prize winners with a children’s pirate costume valued at $35 each.
Each package contains an instant-win prize, including pirate-themed stickers, lenticulars and tattoos.
The sweepstakes runs through Dec. 31. On-pack and Internet materials support.
