Martha Stewart Reports Small Jump in DM Revenue

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., New York, has reported that fourth quarter revenue increased 23.0% to $285.8 million. The quarter ended Dec. 31.

Internet and direct commerce revenue increased 9.1% to $16.5 million. Total revenue increased 20.5% to $85.5 million, compared to $71 million last year. Publishing, the company’s largest segment, reported strong revenue growth in the quarter of 29.6% to $52.6 million. Merchandising revenue grew 39.2% to $5.4 million while television reported $11.0 million for the quarter.

Internet and direct commerce revenue of $16.5 million benefited from increased catalog circulation, new product offerings, and higher Internet traffic, the company said in a statement. This segment reported a loss of $8.5 million, compared to $7.1 million in the fourth quarter of 1999. The loss reflects increased circulation of the Martha by Mail catalog and the continued investment in technology and infrastructure for marthastewart.com.
