Mars Advertising Hires Former Walmart Exec to Lead Social Media Unit

MARS Advertising, Inc. has formed a new division to merge social media and shopper marketing.

John Andrews, a former senior manager of emerging media for Walmart Stores, Inc., has been named managing director of the division, called Collective Bias. He will be based in Southfield, MI.

“We recognize that the shopping experience can happen anywhere at anytime, and reaching consumers through digital media networks is an increasingly important part of an effective shopper marketing strategy,” MARS Advertising CEO Ken Barnett, said in a release.

While at Walmart, Andrews led the concept and activation of innovative social media strategies. He is perhaps best known for the creation of Walmart’s award winning social media platform Elevenmoms, an industry-leading online customer advocate program. In addition to his Walmart experience, Andrew’s has more than 12 years of experience with consumer brands including: Sara Lee, Eastman Kodak Digital, Newell Rubbermaid and Implus Footcare.
