In support of its new summer comedy Sleepover, MGM Pictures and Milton Bradley are hosting the World’s Largest Sleepover this month at the Mall of America in Minneapolis.
Stars from the movie will be on hand for the June 23 festivities, which are held in conjunction with the release of Milton Bradley’s new game, Cover to Cover, available this summer. Milton Bradley is also a sponsor of Sleepover. Satellite sleepovers will be held simultaneously in 21 markets including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, Toronto and Washington D.C.
To get the word out, MGM Pictures is running an ad in The LA Times, as well as recruiting girls by world of mouth as they do for most special screenings. MGM will scour its database and contact local groups such as the Girl Scouts, to participate in the event. Festivities include a sleepover in the mall and sneak peek screenings of the film, which opens in theaters on July 9. Guests will be encouraged to wear pajamas for the events, which will include Cover to Cover game play and contests, on-site live radio remotes, makeovers and beauty sessions and food. World’s Apart, makers of the Readybed, are supplying several hundred inflatable sleeping bags for the event.
In Sleepover, Julie (Alexa Vega) has a summer slumber party before her freshman year in high school with her best friends and they end up having the adventure of their lives. Milton Bradley’s Cover to Cover is a game targeted to tween girls. Using an electronic centerpiece, category cards and four magazines, players have to find certain things in the magazines in a limited amount of time.
