John Nolan, deputy postmaster general for the U.S. Postal Service, wants direct marketers to view the service as a “partner” rather than the “great evil rate raiser.”
Nolan, speaking during yesterday’s luncheon at the Direct Marketing Days Conference & Exposition, said the USPS would not raise rates again for another year or year and a half.
He said rates are going up in July by an average 1.6%, the second increase in six months, because the USPS did not get the increase it needed with January’s 4.6% hike, he said. (The USPS had asked for 6%).
“All we’re after is to get the minimum amount needed to sustain operations,” he said.
