In honor of the Direct Marketing Days New York conference New York state governor George E. Pataki issued a proclamation declaring June 26-July 2, 2005, as “Direct Marketing Week in the Empire State.” Ronald L. Bliwas, chairman of the board of the Direct Marketing Association, shared the highlights of Pataki’s pronouncement during an opening session at the conference.
In his proclamation, Pataki recognized that direct marketing contributes more than $165 billion in revenue, and one million jobs, to New York state, making it one of the largest hubs for direct marketing in the world. He also acknowledged that New York is the epicenter of the advertising world, and that direct marketing makes up more than half of all U.S advertising.
He also noted that direct marketing’s growth outpaced total U.S. growth in advertising spending, revenue and employment.
Finally, Pataki welcomed the direct marketing representatives who gathered for the conference from around the world.
