Not to labor the point about RFM versus spam–it’s just that no one’s hit on it yet. (Frankly, I’m surprised.)
The two terms arise from entirely divergent marketing approaches, and as such have nothing to do with each other. Reputable online marketers already have the most powerful targeting mechanism ever invented. It’s called ‘opt-in.’
Spam is merely the online equivalent of junk mail addressed to ‘occupant.’ We all get this litter in our postal mailboxes every day and have learned to cope with it. I suggest we do the same with spam. It’s not going away. So turn on your filters and empty your mailboxes.
