[Re: “Loose Cannon: They Love to Spy. And It Showed,” DIRECT Newsline, Monday, March 17]:
Your Delta comments brings full circle the topic of strategic thinking versus “just get it done and it’ll all blow over away”. One person uses the situation to his/her advantage and the other responds and slinks away to wait until a better day dawns.
It is important for all of us to applaud the strategic thinker who sets the bar higher. Sadly, those that do the least waiting for a better day are the majority. And it is the lucky salesman that faces the low-bar thinker.
I suspect the reason why the airline industry does not do what you suggest is firmly rooted in hiding from passenger safety news, which has never been good, relying instead on “more people die in car crashes than have ever died from an infrequent plane crash”. Whew! Maybe the idea of slinking away has its virtues. Why give reason to dialog on this hideous topic, huh?
Good comment, Richard. Maybe you’ll stir the pot to benefit us all.
