Letters to the Editor

[Re: Loose Cannon: TLC’s D-N-C DM Needs W-O-R-K, Direct Newsline, June 2]

I can’t figure out where TLC got the list of Do-Not-Call sign-ups. Certainly the DMA didn’t release it. I can’t believe that someone in the State Government of Pennsylvania has it, let alone released it. Was it a Service Bureau somewhere?

Obviously because I earn my living brokering lists, I think the central question here is how carefully are those lists being watched, and who has access to them? We are all very concerned about privacy. Many of us spend huge chunks of time and resources trying to make certain that the rules –written and unwritten–are carefully followed.

When something like this comes along, we all tremble in our respective boots, because it illustrates how very vulnerable we are to criticism from those outside the industry who don’t understand what we do. This situation illustrates that perhaps some of us who should understand, don’t, and that leaves us all open to criticism–or worse!
