Re: Loose Cannon: Sounding Off at DMDNY, Direct Newsline, Monday June 16, 2008 (http://directmag.com/opinions-columnists/loosecannon/loose-cannon-sounding-off-dmdny-0616/:

I had a meeting with 2 clients in the [DMDNY] exhibit hall. We went to the back of the room where all the meeting tables were. After a few minutes, my client said the loud music being played was driving him crazy (as it was for all of us).

I spotted a technician and asked him — politely — if he could turn down the music so we could continue our meeting. He told me he was told to keep the music loud. I asked by whom. By the show manager, he said. I asked if this was a DMA person and he said yes.

Then he told me — and this blew my mind — that where the tables were set up was a PLAY area. I told him there must have been a misunderstanding — the tables are set up for meeting purposes! He did lower the music.

Later in the afternoon I had another meeting so we went to talk – guess where? Back to the tables, but surprisingly it was quiet. YAY, I thought. All of a sudden, someone spoke into a mike from the “stage area” and it blasted through the speakers. I actually jumped in my seat!

The “meeting area” was just one of my many complaints about the show!
