‘Junk Mail’ Tax Break Bill Advances in Florida

A tax break for businesses that mail advertising fliers, as long as they’re neatly packaged in an envelope, is moving toward approval by state lawmakers, according to the Lakeland (FL) Ledger.

Also included in House Bill 1079 — a tax break for a new “air taxi” service launched by the retired founder of software company Citrix Systems.

The bill’s sponsor said it wasn’t fair that advertising inserts that were stapled together or tucked inside newspapers or magazines aren’t taxed in Florida, while advertising that comes in envelopes is taxed.
