Joint Congressional Hearing on USPS Set for Tuesday

The Senate Governmental Affairs and House Government Reform Committees will hold a joint public hearing on reform of the U.S. Postal Service on Tuesday, March 23.

Witnesses will include Treasury Secretary John Snow, Postmaster General John Potter, and USPS Board of Governors Chairman David Fineman.

Last July, the Presidential Commission on the U.S. Postal Service completed its report on the challenges facing the USPS and recommended solutions to ensure its long-term viability and increased efficiency. Since then, the House and Senate committees have held several hearings examining the recommendations.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee and Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) are reportedly planning to introduce postal reform legislation as early as next month.
