Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi plans to create an office under his direct control to further his aims to privatize the country’s three postal services, according to wire service reports.
The planned office is expected to work out necessary bills and other preparations after the government’s Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy puts together an interim report in April. The report will address Koizumi’s plan to privatize mail delivery, postal savings and “kampo” life insurance services in fiscal 2007.
Koizumi faces a lot of opposition among lawmakers especially those in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
