USA Networks Inc., New York, had second-quarter revenue of $1.37 billion, up 21% from the $1.13 billion seen in second-quarter 2000. The entertainment, information and direct marketing firm shrunk its net loss from $13.3 million to $10.3 million during the same period. The quarter ended June 30.
The company’s electronic retailing operations, HSN and HSN.com, had operating revenue growth of 15% from year-ago levels, from $401.1 million to $462 million. The division’s earnings rose 7%, from $57.3 million to $61.1 million.
While USA Networks did not break out revenue splits between the online and offline parts of HSN, it did indicate that revenue at HSN.com grew 350% between the quarters. The division also gained 525,000 new customers, a 12% increase from second quarter 2000’s level.
