HSBC Bank this week begins giving free rides to New Yorkers who know their Big Apple trivia.
BankCab teams throughout Manhattan pose trivia questions about the city to commuters. Correct answers earn a $2 MTA Metrocard good for subway and bus rides. Meanwhile, two vintage red-and-white Checker cabs roam the city offering free rides to HSBC Bank customers who show their ATM, debit or credit card to the driver.
“We want to show our fellow New Yorkers that HSBC understands their needs when it comes to every-day life in the city,” said HSBC Regional President David Kotheimer in a statement.
The HSBC Free Ride/Free Checking campaign launches HSBC’s free checking service at its 400 branches across New York state. A tell-a-friend overlay gives a Gruen watch to current HSBC customers who refer new checking account customers (who also get a watch when they open an account).
The promo began Oct. 25 and runs each Wednesday through Dec. 22 via Renegade Marketing Group, New York.
HSBC entered the New York market last year with a BankCab promo that used cabdrivers to help build its local reputation. Three hundred cabbies entered its BankCabbie search; the winner, Johnny Morello, won a seven-month contract to drive a branded Checker cab that gave free rides to New Yorkers with an HSBC bankcard or checkbook. Morello drives one of the two Checker cabs this fall.
