House Joins Senate In Extending Internet Tax Moratorium: Reports

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

The U.S. House of Representatives joined the Senate in voting for a seven-year extension on Internet access taxes. The bill now goes to President Bush, who is expected to sign it into law.

According to reports, the House passed the bill by a 402-0 vote. The House had initially passed a four-year ban, but changed the terms of its legislation to match a seven-year moratorium passed by the Senate last week.

The moratorium has been renewed twice since it was initially passed in 1998. The current extension was set to expire Nov. 1.

The legislation also contains language prohibiting taxing e-mail and instant message services provided separately from Internet access packages, according to reports.
