History Channel, NYC Open Tourism Center

The History Channel and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will unveil the NYC Heritage Tourism Center today, the centerpiece of The History Channel’s $19.5 million sponsorship of the city’s historic tourism.

The center, in City Hall Park, was originally slated to open in May. It’s one part of the multi-year sponsorship deal that the city and History Channel announced late last year (Dec. 9, 2004 Xtra).

The deal earmarks $15 million for tourism ads, $3.5 million for historic preservation, and $1 million for programming. The History Channel plans to launch branded tours of the city’s historical sites this year, and will develop New York City’s Official History Tours and New York City’s Official History Trolley via Grayline transportation company.

The History Channel’s agency Civic Entertainment Group, New York City, brokered the deal.
