Who says the daily-deals sector is dead? About 12 hours after Half Off Depot acquired CrowdSavings for $6.4 million in cash and stock, it was revealed that Groupon acquired MashLogic, the company behind Britely, a browser add-on tool that lets users save and share things they see on the Web. Don’t get intrigued by Britely, though: MashLogic announced that it will shut the service down on Feb. 18, when all data and user records will be permanently deleted.
“We are thrilled to join the Groupon team to help build the operating system for local commerce,” MashLogic says in its blog post announcing the acquisition. “Like all startups, our aspiration has always been to have a major impact on the world, and with Groupon, we see a real opportunity to make a significant improvement in people’s everyday lives.”
Groupon has shown a knack for turning these kinds of “acqui-hire” deals into products, so maybe some sort of browser-based tool is on the way.
The daily-deals company has been on an acquisition binge lately, recently acquiring CommerceInterface and Glassmap.
