Geerlings & Wade Net Losses Widen

Geerlings & Wade Inc., a wine cataloger and retailer, reported a net loss of $293,000 for the quarter ended Sept.30, a worsening from a net loss of $210,000 posted for the third quarter of 2000.

Sales for the quarter were $6.9 million, a 5% decline of 5% from third quarter 2000 sales of $7.3 million. The company attributed part of this decline to the Sept. 11 terrorist acts.

The Canton, MA-based company reported a net loss of $595,000 or the first nine months of 2001, down from a net loss of $980,000, for the first three quarters of 2000.

For the first nine months of 2001, Geerlings reported sales of $21.9 million, a 13% decline from sales of about $24.7 million for the first nine months of 2000.
