FTC to Begin Review of its Environmental Marketing Guidelines

The Federal Trade Commission has stepped up its timetable to review its environmental marketing guidelines due to the increase in “green” advertising.

The commission has begun its review of its “Green Guides,” which outline principles for environmental marketing claims and provide specifics about certain claims such as degradability, compostability, recyclability, recycled content and ozone safety.

Comments on the guides, last updated in 1998, will open Feb. 11, 2008. The review had been scheduled for 2009.

A number of meetings and workshops will also be held.
