FTC Obtains Stop E-mail Order

The Federal Trade Commission has obtained a temporary restraining order requiring Sili Neutraceuticals LLC and Brian McDonald, doing business as Kaycon Ltd., to stop sending e-mail messages that promote hoodia weight loss products.

An FTC complaint and restraining order have been filed at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

According to the FTC, consumers were sent unwanted e-mail messages to generate Web site traffic. The FTC alleges false and unsubstantiated product claims were made in advertising.

The FTC claimed it received more than 85,000 spam messages in its database from this marketing operation. Many of the messages were inserted inside online forms at Web sites, according to the FTC.
