Frito-Lay’s CEO to Retire; New Exec Chosen

PepsiCo has named former Kraft Foods, Inc. executive Irene Rosenfeld to head its Frito-Lay division.

Rosenfeld, 50, will be chairwoman and CEO of the $9 billion snack and convenience foods division. She succeeds Al Bru, who will retire Feb. 1 after 28 years with the company, PepsiCo said last week. Bru, 55, has been named PepsiCo vice chairman, effectively immediately.

“Frito-Lay and PepsiCo have been my life’s work and passion, but the time has come to make more time for my family and balance my commitment,” Bru said in a statement.

At Frito-Lay Rosenfeld will direct all U.S. and Canadian operations. She has more than 20 years in the food industry with Kraft Foods and General Foods. Most recently she was president of Kraft’s $21 billion North American business until 2003.

The company also said that John C. Compton, 43, president of the North America salty snacks business will take on the additional role of vice chairman of Frito-Lay.

PepsiCo is one of the world’s largest food and beverage companies with annual revenues of $27 billion. Its businesses include Frito-Lay snacks, Pepsi-Cola beverages, Gatorade sports drinks, Tropicana juices and Quaker foods.
