Quiznos has named former Burger King CEO Greg Brenneman its new president and chief executive, effective immediately.
Brenneman replaces Rick Schaden, who was CEO and chairman and will remain chairman.
“We are confident that Greg brings the right mix of experience, strategic foresight and drive to take the Quiznos brand to the next level of growth and profitability,” Schaden said in a statement. “Greg’s strategic vision and his ability to execute are well known and have been documented time and again.”
In his new role, Brenneman will focus on boosting restaurant profitability for franchise owners, building brand awareness and expanding the company’s customer base. In addition, he plans to focus on the chain’s international growth.
Denver-based Quiznos marked its 25th anniversary in 2006. The chain is the second-largest player in the U.S. sandwich market next to leader Subway.
Prior to joining Quiznos, Brenneman worked nearly a two-year stint at the helm of Miami-based Burger King, where he was credited with boosting restaurant sales (PROMO Xtra, April 7, 2006). He left to rejoin his private equity firm, TurnWorks, Inc., which has taken an equity stake in Quiznos. Financial terms were not disclosed.
