Florida Student Appears in Pantene “Reality Hair” Ad

A Florida journalism student was chosen by Pantene to be its first “Reality TV Star,” during a casting call to find a real person to appear in what it billed as “the first reality hair ad.”

Marissa Hopson, 24, was chosen from 140 contestants who submitted one-minute videos that showed why they—and their hair—should be the Pantene reality hair star.

The ad aired last week across Oxygen Media, Bravo Media and the NBC season finale of “The Biggest Loser: Couples.” During the 60-second spot, spokesperson Stacy London revealed the winner.

Hopson was one of 12 semifinalists flown to New York City for an in-person test shoot last month. To capture her surprise as the winner, cameras were hidden in her home and London knocked on her front to let her know she was the winner.

The ad is part of parent company Procter & Gamble’s reinvention of the brand, which is being given “unprecedented” marketing support, the company said.

Don Jagoda Associates administered the contest.
