A rally by union members from Fingerhut Cos. Inc. are scheduled to take place on Friday at the Cincinnati headquarters of Federated Department Stores Inc., the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
The union will protest the expected lay off of 3,300 workers from the Minnetonka catalog business.
The layoffs include 2,400 employees in Minnesota, Ben Saukko, Fingerhut spokesperson told the Star Tribune.
The company issued federal notices to 3,700 people about their impending lay offs in January when Federated said it would liquidate Fingerhut unless a buyer stepped forward.
A deadline of April 5 was set to let go the 3,300 employees from Minnesota and Tennessee locations.
Last week, Federated announced it would close the catalog and seek bidders to purchase the company piecemeal. The department store chain said that though it was not giving up on the existing bidder, Peter Lytle, “enough uncertainty exists” that it would seek additional buyers.
Lytle has said he wants to buy all the assets of the company.
